The Jolly Phonics decodable readers start with simple reading books – containing regularly decodable words for blending practice as the children learn their letter sounds – before progressing to introduce alternative spellings and tricky words to help them become fluent and confident readers.
The text in the books builds up cumulatively, meaning that the words are never out of reach of the children’s learning! Comprehension questions and discussion topics are provided at the end of each book, as well as guidance for teachers and parents. Light type is used as a guide for those few letters that should not be sounded out, such as the /b/ in ‘lamb’.
