Jolly Phonics Is Transforming Education in Assam

Since 2021 Ms. Komal Goenka, in partnership with the SEBA (Secondary Education Board of Assam) and Jolly Futures, have been working towards Jolly Phonics district rollouts in Guwahati. In 2023, after seeing the successful implemetation of Jolly Phonics in 6 primary schools, the Government approved to rollout this programme in 400 schools benefitting 12,000 grade 1 pupils. The overall aim of this project was to ensure that early grade pupils in government primary schools acquire essential foundational English literacy skills that will facilitate future academic achievement, amongst other benefits. The dedication from the whole team, the support from the Assam Ministry of Education and the generous donations of materials from Dr Chris Jolly and Manas Saikia Foundation provided the opportunity for every grade 1 pupil in Guwahati, Assam to have access to high quality literacy education.
