Delana Setareki

Setareki B Delana is a Senior Curriculum Specialist for Reading/LANA at the Curriculum Unit in the Ministry of Education in Fiji. He has a strong background in primary school teaching and experience as an early grade teacher literacy trainer for effective reading instruction. Setareki is passionate about advocating for literacy reform and has made significant contributions by pioneering the use of the Synthetic Phonics Approach using the Jolly Phonics Resources in Fiji in 2008. Setareki has developed a unique combination of educational literacy experience and is committed to ensuring that students become competent learners. He is a self-motivated literacy advocate and a skilled network builder who uses his experience and internal/external network to create positive change in literacy. Setareki is a literacy champion in Fiji who specialises in personalised literacy teaching and assessment. He has the ability to handle multiple tasks against tight timelines and is always eager to find ways to improve results. Setareki has presented at various international literacy conferences and has trained teachers, education officers, and parents on literacy and reading.

He has a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and is a member of the International Jolly Phonics Trainers Association.

Setareki’s goal is to bring about intrinsic positive change through literacy and reading development in Fiji and the Pacific region.
